A new website and a forthcoming book !

If you have spent any time with me or near me in the past few years, you will know that a large proportion of my conversations and activities feature queer ecologies, and specifically Queer Flora, Fauna, and Funga, a project that I’m thrilled to describe in more detail here.
This is both a book and an ongoing digital publication. The project began with an anthology that I edited, featuring the contributions and collaborations of over 50 artists, writers, scientists, theorists, and other creative folks. I have since expanded the project into an ongoing digital platform, queerflora.org. I am happy to announce the launch of this new site, designed in collaboration with moonpool.co , and the first batch of featured artists and authors, with many more works to come.
The book is forthcoming with the lovely art book press Valiz, based in Amsterdam—the publication date is tentatively this July, 2026, but the publishers have wisely listed August, just in case. Everything is on track, so please mark your calendars and get ready to hold this treasure trove of wonders in your hands later this summer.

To follow in my theme of writing about the process behind my projects on this platform, I’ll peel back the layers here and describe how this book and digital platform took shape. For the past few years, I taught interdisciplinary courses at Kenyon College in Ohio, through my position as the Mellon Science and Nature Writing Fellow. One of the courses I taught shared the name with this forthcoming book: “Queer Flora, Fauna, and Funga”—a creative science and nature writing course, overlapping with queer theory. I was happy to read along with my students, discover new texts, and explore various forms and styles under the broad and odd umbrella of queer ecology. Over two years, I taught several versions of this course, and this helped me shape an anthology of texts that I pitched to Valiz as a book. The book grew to include many new and unexpected shapes, including visual art and comics. I decided to expand the book project to a digital platform to accommodate continuing conversations and collaborations, as well as longer contributions, hybrid forms, and multimedia projects. If you are a creator (author, artist, scientist, theorist, other) of work that you might want to publish on this platform, or you know of someone who might be interested, please get in touch : queerflorafaunafunga@gmail.com
For now, please enjoy reading and viewing the first seven ‘works’ on the site, and keep your eyes peeled for more news about the book. I will be posting announcements about upcoming events, festivals, book fairs, readings, launches, etc. Here is a tentative and growing list of events; if you know of a venue that might be interested in hosting an event, get in touch! And, if you know of a bookshop or library in your area that you would like to carry the book, please recommend the title to them. Valiz works with the North American distributor Artbook D.A.P, and Central Books in the UK, as well as several other global distributors listed on their site.
I am so thrilled to share this news; more forthcoming! Stay tuned and spread the word.
